This is the best news that could of come in on a Monday (that and a new episode of Game of Thrones later this evening!) but Soundgarden have announced dates in Ireland and the UK for this September.

Any regular reader of the site will be aware of my OBSESSION with Soundgarden and how happy I was to finally get to see them at Download Festival and also at Hard Rock Calling in London.

Soundgarden Video Exclusive – Been Away Too Long

It’s only a few seconds into “Been Away Too Long” before any longtime Soundgarden fan, will shout “Yes!”.

“King Animal” is the first studio album from the band since 1996, but Kim Thayil’s meaty guitar riff on this song’s start reminds us no grunge band had a more distinct guitar sound.

And no ’90s Seattle band had a singer with pipes like Chris Cornell and his voice as I have mentioned before from seeing them live is still very much intact. It isn’t until this album’s second song, “Non-State Actor,” that he lets out a scream, but it’s satisfying.

This day in music…..Jeff Buckley

On the evening of this day, May 29, 1997 – Jeff Buckley took a spontaneous swim fully clothed in the Wolf River. A roadie in Buckley’s band, Keith Foti, remained on shore. It is believed that he got caught in the wake of a passing boat and drowned. His body was discovered on June 4, 1997. He was 30 years old.

In 1997, Buckley had moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to resume work on his next album, to be titled My Sweetheart the Drunk, recording many four-track demos while also playing weekly solo shows at a local venue.

Buckley’s career started out in New York City where he emerged in the city’s avant-garde club scene in the 1990′s as one of the most remarkable musical artists of his generation. His first commercial recording, the four-song EP Live At Sin-é, was released in December 1993 on Columbia Records.

Soundgarden confirmed for Hard Rock Calling 2012

Hard Rock International and Live Nation confirmed today that American rock legends Soundgarden will headline Hard Rock Calling 2012 on Friday 13 July in London’s Hyde Park.

Iggy & The Stooges and Cold Chisel also join the bill. They join Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band who headline on Saturday 14 July, and Paul Simon performing ‘Graceland’ in its entirety on Sunday 15 July in what will be one of the hottest events of the summer.

One of the forefathers of the renowned Seattle alternative rock scene in the 90s and one of my all time favorite bands, Soundgarden reunited last year following a 14-year hiatus and are set to release a brand new album later in the year.

Chris Cornell – Why you should know his name!

He co-wrote and sang on the title track to the 2006 James Bond Release, Casino Royale. The track title was ‘”You Know My Name” and I am going to go through reasons why everyone should know Chris Cornell’s name!

Born Christopher John Boyle on July 20, 1964 in Seattle, Washington, Cornell’s influence and contribution to music is often over looked by many as most people are not aware just how much he has influenced some of the biggest and most loved musicians of all time.

Mainly known as the lead vocalist of Soundgarden and Audioslave, he should also be known for his numerous solo works and soundtrack contributions since the early 90′s.
