Paul McCartney and Reunited Nirvana Perform New Song in New York

Last night, as advertised, Paul McCartney was joined onstage at the 12-12-12 benefit concert by the surviving members of grunge giants Nirvana — Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and live guitarist Pat Smear.

A similar campaign in 2009 helped Rage Against the Machine beat X Factor winner Joe McElderry to the Christmas No. 1. It resulted in the group selling 500,000 downloads of their single Killing In The Name, 50,000 more than McElderry received and seen the band hit the road again after huge support from fans.
