Kirk Hammett has confirmed that Metallica will start work on their new album “soon”.

The band, who are currently working on a 3D film project, which is in the hands of Predators director Nimród Antal, will start work on the follow-up to 2008′s ‘Death Magnetic’ soon, Hammett told Rolling Stone.

Lars Ulrich had already commented that the band already had “tons of ideas sitting around”, he said:

METALLICA‘s August 24, August 25 and August 27 concerts at Rogers Arena were shot in 3D for the band’s upcoming feature-film project.

The group earlier in the year tapped award-winning director Nimród Antal to helm the movie. Charlotte Huggins (“Journey To The Center Of The Earth”, “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”) is producing.

The film will be a marriage of narrative and concert and will star the “five” members of METALLICA — James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo, and the fans.

As reported, last year METALLICA started writing the follow-up to 2008′s “Death Magnetic”.

The band have been working from riffs and licks taped during the past three years of touring.

Drummer Lars Ulrich recently spoke to Rolling Stone about the process: “We’re about seven, eight songs into it,” which will once again be produced by Rick Rubin. “We do it in rounds. We come up with something, we leave it, go to the next thing, come up with something basic, leave it and circle back around.

Following the news back in June that Metallica and Lou Reed were working on a project together there has been an air of excitement in the Sidesixx office.

The title of the album is ‘Lulu’ and was inspired by was inspired by German expressionist writer Frank Wededkind’s plays “Earth Spirit” and “Pandora’s Box,” which tell a story of a young abused dancer’s life and relationships and are now collectively known as the “Lulu Plays.”

Since their publication in the early 1900′s, the plays have been the inspiration for a silent film (“Pandora’s Box,” 1929), an opera, and countless other creative endeavors.

According to RadioAndMusic.com, MTV India will broadcast METALLICA’s first-ever concert in India.

The channel, in association with F1 Rocks, will telecast the one-hour special of historic METALLICA performance one week after the live event.

F1 Rocks and MTV have organized a nationwide band hunt where a lucky band selected through online voting will get an opportunity of a lifetime to perform at the concert. MTV will telecast this nationwide search as four half-hour episodes.
