“Shockwaves Skull Sessions” podcast episode #48 is the first of a “riveting” three-episode “Big Four” special, featuring returning guest and esteemed U.K. metal author Joel McIver, Craig Locicero from San Francisco Bay Area thrash titans FORBIDDEN and metal veteran Michael Huntsman.

They join host Bob Nalbandian on yet another heated discussion thrashing out a discography deliberation on the first few albums of METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX.

This episode hones in on the early days of thrash metal.

The all-day “Big Four” festival took place last weekend (April 23rd) at the Empire Polo Club, Indio, California. Featuring the “Big Four” bands of 1980s thrash metal — METALLICA, SLAYER, ANTHRAX and MEGADETH — the bands shared the stage in the U.S. for the first time ever, drawing an estimated 50,000 people.

The Big 4 tour makes it way over to Europe this summer with dates at the series of Sonisphere festivals.

Members of ANTHRAX, SLAYER and MEGADETH joined METALLICA on stage for a cover of DIAMOND HEAD’s “Am I Evil?” before they ended the night with “Seek And Destroy”.

Yesterday I wrote about how I will be devastated when Metallica try to take a break from touring. Thankfully this fear seems to be getting pushed further and further away with the announcement that next next installment of the Big 4 shows takes us to Milan, Italy.

Looks like more good times with Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, and yours truly at the Fiera Open Air Arena on July 6, 2011.
