Metal Hammer Golden God Awards 2011

The Metal Hammer Golden God Awards took place on Monday 13 June, 2011. It is always a great event and the motley crue of artists and industry people flock from Download festival every year to attend the awards. It is a great way to finish the weekend.

The HMS Hammer, took its maiden voyage down the Thames to the ninth annual awards ceremony which took place at the Indigo2, London.

With legends like Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Twisted Sister and Judas Priest in attendance, this year’s Golden God awards was a feast of metal that celebrated everything that’s great about metal in 2011!

Metal Hammer Golden God Nominations

This nominations for this year’s ceremony are out and this event will also mark the magazine’s 25th anniversary. Leading the way this year are Rob Zombie and Skindred, who both receive two nominations.

Metal Hammer publisher Chris Ingham said: “A whole quarter of a century ago, Metal Hammer magazine began and in that time we’ve worked with some of the biggest and best names in metal and rock music. Some of those names will be joining us for the Metal Hammer Golden Gods and, whether they’re icons or rising stars, their tireless efforts to stay true to the most loyal fanbase around is a massive achievement and one we are thrilled to honour”.

The awards this year will also include a new category – “metal as fuck” – for acts “who have remained ‘metal’ in the face of adversity”. In total there are nine categories up for public vote, as well as nine categories that will be decided by readers of the magazine.

They have toured with major music heavy weights such as Mudvayne, Sevendust, Skindred, Disturbed, Drowning Pool and Buckcherry. Guitarist Zach Broderick sits down with State to discuss the new album and the plans to conquer Europe.

So Zach how are you doing today?

I am doing very well. We just got in from the states a few hours ago and we are feeling great. I am a little tired and trying to get our heads together before we play Download. The weather is amazing and I am just really excited to be here and play at a festival where most of my heroes have played.
