Hard Rock Calling 2011 Review

Not to be put off by sharing the weekend with the biggest festival in the world – Hard Rock Calling kicked off on Friday 24th June in London’s Hyde Park.

HRC is well able to hold it’s own on the booking front and also with attracting some big names as spectators.

Prince Harry’s VIP drinking stint with Princesses Bea and Eugenie and various Glee cast members keeps the tabloid showbiz gawkers and the guest-list PRs very happy for the weekend.

Hard Rock Calling – Hyde Park 2011

I feel like I am only just after recovering from this year’s Download festival, and it is time to kick it off again this weekend with a stop at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park.

Not to be put off with being on the same weekend as Glastonbury – the festival has a strong line up with the likes of The Killers, Imelda May, Bon Jovi, Ray Davies, Rod Stewart, Adam Ant and Stevie Nicks making up some of the acts performing over the weekend.

Promoters Live Nation are expecting 145,000 to visit the event. “Because it’s the 40th anniversary of Hard Rock this year, they are going to town and spending a lot of money on the event,” said Live Nation vice president of promotions Toby Leighton-Pope.

The Killers announced as a headliner for Hard Rock Calling

I do love Monday morning emails when they give me great news like this – Hard Rock International and Live Nation confirmed today that The Killers will headline Hard Rock Calling 2011 on Friday 24 June.

The Killers last performed in the UK, in support of their million-selling third album, Day And Age, in 2009. Following six years of intensive touring, the Las Vegas band then decided to take last year off to recharge their batteries and explore other projects, including solo work (Brandon Flowers’ Flamingo topped the UK charts last year, while a record from the band’s Ronnie Vannucci is expected this summer).

The Killers have now reunited to begin writing a new record, and plan to celebrate with a Hyde Park show that will encompass hits from their three studio albums to date: ‘Hot Fuss’ (2004), ‘Sam’s Town’ (2006) and ‘Day & Age’ (2008)). The band will perform much-loved hits including Mr Brightside, Somebody Told Me, All These Things That I’ve Done , Spaceman, When You Were Young, Read My Mind and Human – as well as some fan-favourites from 2007’s Sawdust.
